For Cassia Co-op Ltd. Van Marwijk Advies prepared the organIc + Rainforest Alliance audit of 2,144 small cassia farmers in Kerinci, Sumatra. Van Marwijk Advies adviced the Cassia Co-op local staff on the requirements of both audit systems, wrote the new ICS Manual and prepared all the necessary documents for both audits. In April 2016, both certificates for all 2,144 farmers were obtained.

For Birdlife/Burung Indonesia Van Marwijk Advies co-facilitated a workshop on sustainable cocoa production in Gorontalo/North Sulawesi. We mapped the cocoa supply chain and discussed the conditions to make the current chain more profitable and sustainable. We also discussed funding needs and possibilities to get funding from donors. The changing demands of donors (like the business plan) were explained.

For FSC Netherlands Van Marwijk Advies facilitated two roundtable discussions with 25 of the largest Dutch construction companies and timber dealers. What are bottlenecks these companies face in the purchase and use of FSC timber, and what are the solutions. Results were published in the Dutch magazine Duurzaam Gebouwd.

For the Netherlands Water Partnership Van Marwijk Advies wrote a proposal for IDH, promoting new initiatives on sustainable palm oil, shrimp production and coastal zone management in Indonesian lowlands. It was submitted at the IDH/the Sustainable Land and Water Programme; the programme on palm oil has been selected.

We mapped opportunities for Dutch companies and NGO's to start new business in food, sustainable palm oil, shrimps and mangrove restoration in the lowlands in Indonesia. With this, we help these organizations to move from "aid to trade".

For The Borneo Initiative Van Marwijk Advies made a project plan for their new operations in the US, called Linking USA. The TBI team in the US will increase the market demand in the USA for Indonesian FSC timber and connect US customers directly to the FSC timber producers in Indonesia. TBI's annual trading target is: 120,000 m3/year of FSC timber products with the USA.

Coaching TNO Ghana partnership – Van Marwijk Advies coached the project managers of TNO working with farmers in the Upper East region in Ghana, aimed at local production of smart farming tools.
Using more specific and ergonomic tools decreases the workload, improves the quality of crops and increases the productivity. Partners in Ghana were Kalabash Foundation, Polytechnic Bolga-tanga (Technical School) and the University of Kumasi.

Partnership Agreement AtM Index - For AtM Index, Van Marwijk Advies developed Access to Medicine partnership agreement, in which DFID, OxfamNovib, ICCO, HIVOS, Cordaid and SNS Reaal express their support. Through this agreement, the Index received substantial financial support from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2009-2012).
The Access to Medicine Index was designed to provide standardized information on pharmaceutical companies with regard to their efforts to improve global access to medicines.

Master Class on Partnerships for PLAN and companies For Plan Netherlands, Plan HQ and country offices in China, Colombia, India, Indonesia and Vietnam Van Marwijk Advies organised a Master Class on partnerships with the private sector.
Experiences with public private partnerships were exchanged, and the group prepared for a successful dialogue with the private sector.
In the second, 'open' part of the Master Class six international companies from PLAN's network – Philips, Organon, Akzo Nobel, Rabobank, Wolters Kluwer, TNO – were invited to prepare new and review existing partnerships.
For the development and implementation of the Master Class Partnerships Van Marwijk Advies invited the internationally renowned IBLF/The Partnering Initiative.

Fundraising for The Borneo Initiative (FSC certification)
Van Marwijk Advies developed a fundraising strategy for The Borneo Initiative and raised funds for the certification of millions of hectares of Indonesian forests. The Borneo Initiative supports sustainable forest management and better living conditions in Indonesia. With the swift certification of millions of hectares of tropical forests, The Borneo Initiative aims to combat deforestation and illegal logging and bring together supply and demand for certified timber.

FSC conference in Jakarta Dutch housing associations have massively decided to use FSC timber in construction and renovation. To capitalize this commitment, Van Marwijk Advies organised a conference. in Jakarta (26-29 March 2007) on behalf of for FSC Netherlands and WWF
A delegation of 25 people – (housing) construction companies, NGO's and government – travelled to Jakarta to provide information on the FSC market in Holland/Europe. They entered into new deals with Indonesian concessionaires and joineries.
This Building and Borneo conference is the first example of a supply chain approach in which demand and supply are connected so directly and so visibly. Van Marwijk Advies coordinated and organised the conference.

Indicators for Sustainable Jatropha
For the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels Van Marwijk Advies and Brinkmann Consultancy managed a multistakeholder working grout that developed indicators for sustainable jatropha production. The indicators give practical guidance to companies involved in the production, processing, trade and use of jatropha, and to governments and other stakeholders such as project financers (banks) and NGOs. Members of the working group were: Shell, D1-BP Fuel Crops, Biogreen Oil, Cosmo Biofuels, Eneco, Agroils, Bio Partners Limited, BERL, GEXSI, KIT, WWF, Yale University.

Sustainable Palmoil European Conference in Brussels



 

1st Sustainable Palmoil European Conference in Brussels Van Marwijk Advies prepared and organized the first European RSPO conference, which was held in Brussels.
The Round Table for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) has achieved important results concerning the development of definitions and criteria for the sustainable production and use of palm oil.
To share these results with stakeholders at the European level and discuss the policy implications with European politicians, policy makers and other European stakeholders a EU conference in Brussels was organized.

Green car leasing There is a growing demand for green car leasing. For the Dutch car lease company ALP Van Marwijk Advies has developed a green lease service. Parts of this service are: cars with energy label A, B, C; compensation of CO2 emission; advising clients on how to reduce their emission; green pit stop. A communication package and learning tools for ALP's personnel are developed.

Large-scale certification of Borneo



 

Large-scale certification of Borneo Van Marwijk Advies has coached the private sector initiators of TBI with funding and development of their PPP.
In The Borneo Initiative Dutch housing corporations, real estate developers, timber dealers, NGO's and governments from Indonesia and The Netherlands are joining their forces in a partnership. They will jointly contribute to large-scale LEI-FSC certification in Indonesia. The certified timber will be sold on the Dutch market.
The final result of this initiative will be the preservation and sustainable use of the remaining forests on Borneo, and new, sustainable sources of income for local people.
