Van Marwijk Advies assists the Human Cities Coalition with fundraising. This Dutch public-private partnership is a convener and catalyst for urban change. A coalition committed to pioneering business models for urban infrastructure development that ultimately includes and serves the needs of the urban poor. HCC sets up innovative sustainable housing projects for the urban poor in the megacities Manilla and Jakarta, with private sector investments.

DoubleHelix implements practical solutions based on cutting edge genetics and chemical testing to detect illegal timber entering global supply chains. Established in 2008 and headquartered in Singapore, they work with suppliers, buyers and retailers in over 20 countries worldwide across the Americas, Africa, Europe and Asia.

Workshop ‘business case’ for ICCO SEA |

A 2-days workshop for the ICCO South-East Asia team on the Dutch FDOV fund (sustainable entrepeneurship and food security).Van Marwijk Advies explained the funding conditions, especially those related to cooperation with the private sector. The team practiced with the design of a value chain, making a market analysis and presentation of a business case.

For Birdlife Netherlands Van Marwijk Advies defined a strategy to raise funds for its international program. Through this strategy the organisation can broaden its finance base and scale up successful international programs like Living on the Edge, which protects migratory birds in the Sahel and generates new sources of income for local people.

Van Marwijk Advies trained the team of ICCO South East Asia (20 people, 7 nationalities) in fundraising: more business oriented, moving from aid-to-trade. As part of the workshop, the new international "from aid-to-trade" agenda, requirements of business plans and a team SWOT for fundraising were discussed. After the workshop, Van Marwijk Advies and the fundraising officer of ICCO developed a fundraising strategy, templates and procedures for the team.

River basin management |

Van Marwijk Advies assisted WWF with the development and writing of two proposals (6 million total) for the Sustainable Water Fund/RVO (Netherlands), both on river basin management. The project in Colombia will realize "water stewardship" in Nare river basin, in cooperation with two of the biggest hydropower and water companies in Colombia. The project in Myanmar will reduce water use and pollution in Ayeyarwady basin; this project is developed with the food & beverage sector around Yangon and in the Delta, including Heineken and Carlsberg.

€ 1 million for restoration of mangroves |

For PRCM and their two Guinean NGO partners Guinée Ecology and PREM, Van Marwijk Advies developed a € 1 million project for the restoration of mangroves on Tristao Islands, in the North of Guinea. The introduction of sustainable income-generating activities in this very poor region that highly depends on fishing and fish smoking (on mangrove wood) is a priority. The proposal will likely be funded by D.O.B. Ecology.

Van Marwijk Advies assisted ICCO Bangladesh with the development of the second phase of the PROOFS project: profitable opportunities for food security and markets for the poor. In a 5-days workshop in Dhaka we defined all key elements of the new project, together with the PROOFS teams of ICCO and their US partner IDE.

A € 2 million project for Birdlife West Africa to protect migratory shorebirds along the East-Atlantic flyway. The project was submitted at MAVA Foundation Switzerland. At 3 key sites in Mauritania, Senegal and Guinea Bissau activities will be undertaken, like bird counting, training of local teams, developing bird clubs and socio-economic projects local communities. The proposal will be submitted at MAVA Foundation Switzerland.

€ 7.7 million for MVO. The fundraising of Van Marwijk Advies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been successful: MVO Netherlands received € 7,7 million to fund Change Together. This project helps Dutch small and medium enterprises to make their international supply chains more sustainable. Sectors are for example: leather, horticulture, steel. The program runs from 2013 until 2016. |
